Armour Packing Company.

Kansas City has six packing houses, and a new packing plant to cost $2,000,000 is building. During 1902, there were shipped from the Kansas City market to the country 794,133 head of stock and feeding cattle, practically as many as from all other markets combined. There are in the yards in all 130 buildings and total area under roof is 42 acres. The horse and mule barns, all substantial brick structures, cover an area of 141/2 acres and have a capacity of 10,000 horses and mules. The live stock exchange building contains 31/2 acres of floor space, three quarters of a mile of hallways, and upwards of 350 office rooms. Fully 2,000 persons are engaged in the traffic of the yards

Cliff Drive, North Terrace Park

A distinctive feature of Kansas City are the cliff drives, which traverse the long reach of high bluffs overlooking the Missouri River. These drives are very popular, affording magnificent views of the Missouri River Valley.

Midland Hotel

The Midland Hotel was erected at a cost of a quarter million dollars, the marble used on the interior costing $100,000. The fireproof structure was opened to the public September 1887.

Convention Hall, Cost $250,000

The Convention Hall is one of the architectural features of Kansas City. It was built in 1898 and burned in 1900. The re-construction of this building was commenced at once. It accommodates nearly 25,000 persons.

Roman Catholic Cathedral

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church

St. Mary’s Church was built in 1886. It is constructed of red brick and cost about $75,000. The Memorial Altar is of marble, with a Reredos 32 feet in height. It is decorated in “endolithic work,” and is considered one of the handsomest in the United States. It cost $3,700 and is dedicated to the memory of the late Father Jardine.

Calvary Baptist Church, erected September, 1890, at a cost of $153,000.00. It is constructed of white sandstone and has a seating capacity of 1,443. 

 

Union Depot, Built 1880

Kansas City is an important railway point; 22 railways with 16 different systems have their termini here. Kansas City is a great entreport for the trade of the great Southwest. The Union Depot is located on the banks of the River Missouri.
