Eagle watching is a winter pastime in Missouri as migrating bald eagles visit streams, lakes and wetlands. Plus nesting eagles are becoming more common. But being within a few yards of a live bald eagle and a golden eagle remains unusual, unless you attend an Eagle Days program where captive birds are exhibited.
The Schell Osage Conservation Area and the Schell City community will host an Eagle Days program 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4.
A captive eagle program with a bald eagle and a golden eagle will be at the Schell City Rural Volunteer Fire Department building, 101 Main St., in Schell City. The eagle program will be presented by staff from the Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield.
Food and refreshments will be served by the Schell City Community Club. Schell City and the MDC conservation area are in northeastern Vernon County, northeast of Nevada.
The event also will offer a chance to see wild bald eagles and other wildlife at the Schell Osage Conservation Area. Spotting scopes will be set up at prime locations and MDC staff will be on hand to help participants view wildlife. One eagle nest on the area is also being tended by a nesting pair.
