Treat yourself to a summer adventure you won’t soon forget on the St. Joseph Museum sponsored trip to explore the new Sea Life Kansas City Aquarium at Crown Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The day-long excursion will also include shopping and a gourmet luncheon at the Webster House along with a surprise stop in the afternoon. The trip will be held on Friday, June 8.
The adventure begins at the Sea Life Kansas City Aquarium where over 5,000 sea creatures swim in 260,000 gallons of water. Built at a cost of $15 million, the center includes 30 display tanks in 12 different habitat zones to transport visitors into an amazing underwater world of seahorses, starfish, and sharks. The new facility features feed shows, a touch pool, and a 180 degree underwater ocean tunnel that is the centerpiece of the Aquarium. The 130,000 gallon walk-through underwater tunnel gives visitors a nose-to-nose view of sharks and other sea creatures. All the other displays are also designed to offer astonishingly close views of sea life, including jellyfish, cow nosed rays, common octopus, and clownfish. The Sea Life motto is “to get any closer you’d have to get wet!”
After touring the aquarium, participants will have a chance to relax and enjoy a leisurely lunch of salad with champagne vinaigrette, sliced pork loin, dauphinoise potatoes, sautéed apples, and vanilla crème brulee with whipped cream and fresh berries at the Webster House. More than a restaurant, the Webster House features the largest collection of fine antiques in the Midwest along with a large selection of home décor for a unique shopping experience.
The afternoon will include a surprise stop, making the day a bit of a “Mystery Trip.” Trip participants will find a few clues on the motorcoach in the morning to help them solve the mystery.
The motor coach will leave from the St. Joseph Museum, 3406 Frederick Ave., at 8:30 a.m. on June 8, and return to the museum at approximately 5 p.m. The cost of the trip will be $97 for museum members and $114 for non-members. The trip fee includes luxury motorcoach transportation, all admission fees, lunch, snacks, step-on guide service, and gratuities. Space is limited and reservations must be made by May 10. To make a reservation to join the trip, please call 816.232.8471.
