The 8 day Civil War trip includes guided tours of the Arlington National Cemetery, Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site, Harper’s Ferry and Antietam National Battlefield, and the National Civil War Museum.  On the 6th day of the trip, participants will have reserved seating for a reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg on the 150th anniversary of the battle, which is considered to be a major turning point in the American Civil War.  The following day guests will see the Civil War through the eyes of the civilians of Gettysburg at the Shriver House.  The home of Hettie Shriver and her two daughters, Shriver House was occupied by Confederate soldiers who used the house as a hospital.  Next on the itinerary is the National Civil War Museum, which is the only museum in the United States that portrays the entire story of the Civil War with equally balanced presentations, which are humanistic in nature without bias to Union or Confederate causes.

Brochures on the escorted trip, which will be held from June 30 through July 7, 2013, will be available after the program.  The event will be held at the St. Joseph Museum, 3406 Frederick Avenue, at 6 p.m.  The event is open to the public and admission is free.  Please call the St. Joseph Museum at 816.232.8471 or visit www.stjosephmuseum.org for more information.
